I aimed to create a kinetic sculpture which utilised gearing to visualise this journey of sound. An object which removed all mystery in its workings and operated on a completely transparent level. I also wanted to build a sense of a soul into the machine by making it complex enough for a response of appreciation to be felt when operating the machine. Complexity which is paired with a simple function of playing a simple melody loop.
The project used many new production methods and ways of working such as laser cutting and 3D printing. These processes allowed to rapidly refine and realise the end model with an incredible accessibility I had not previously experienced.
The outcome of the project is a visually intriguing work which aims to portray a completely transparent journey of sound creation from start to finish. A journey only possible through the interaction of the listener.
